Surely you've heard of mice in Disneyland (one named Mickey, in particular), but cats? And lots of them?
Can you spot the cat here? HiddenMickeys.org, 2001.
Yes, it's true: Disneyland is home to many cats, and has been since the 1960s or so. Years ago, when building the now-defunct Sleeping Beauty Castle walk through, over 100 of them were discovered hiding in the castle. Instead of letting them go elsewhere, Disneyland decided to keep the animals and allow them to stay in the park. After all, they controlled the rodent problem (just don't tell Mickey)!
So now, in the year 2008, the rare cat can still be spotted hanging around Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or near the queue of Indiana Jones Adventure. If you really want to catch one, keep your eyes peeled during the night hours - that's when they're most likely to make an appearance.

I had heard of the cats of disneyland. I am curious if they feed them or if they just live off what they catch?
I have not seen any cats on any of my trips to DL. I'm pretty sure that many cats pose a health risk to the visitors to the park.
what a cute site!
i went to disneyworld a couple of years ago and it was so fun!
i was sick but the trip was still amazing!
I visit Disneyland often and many times go to the Hungry Bear Restuarant. The Disney cats are always hanging around there, and they are pretty plump from all the food they get from visitors. They are also very friendly and will allow you to pet and hold them.
I saw one once under the truck that's in front of Indiana Jones
Was at Disneyland earlier today, well around 7:30PM on 6/25/09 I saw a cat on the tram going back to the parking structure!! My girlfriend and I make a game whenever we go...we have seen cats on the outter ring of the river of america you can see them!!!
Saw cats today at the Grizzly Bear Restaurant by Splash Mountain (a white one and a friendly black & brown one like the picture above) They are friendly to pet and plump.
I saw my first cat at Disneyland on 10/8/09 at the Hungry Bear Restaurant next to the Winnie the Pooh ride. I have been to Disneyland over fifty times and have never seen a cat! I was amazed. It kind of looked like the one in the picture. It was cautious but cute. I think it is a great idea for Disney to handle the rodent problem.
Ive been to Disneyland a ton of times, and have never seen a cat, except last time I did spot one. He was by Thunder Mountain and he was eating a churro!
The cats pretty much keep to themselves during the day. At night they will come out and feed on leftovers and prance around like they own the place.
So far as I know, not a single one has an annual pass, yet they come and go as they please. I guess keeping the rodent population down makes them honorary Cast Members...
